This popular short walk takes you to the terminal face of Fox Glacier, and is suitable for most ages and fitness levels. If you are not planning to do a guided walk on the glacier with Fox Glacier Guiding, we recommend that you at least visit the glacier face by doing this walk.
The walk takes about one hour return, and leads up the Fox Glacier valley, with towering rock formations carved by the glacier over tens of thousands of years.
The end of the track is very close to the terminal face of Fox Glacier, and gives you a true sense of the size and weight of the mass of ice and rock that forms the glacier. Do not go beyond the barrier, as massive chunks of ice and rock regularly fall off the glacier face.
Drive time to the start of the track from Fox Glacier Holiday Park is about 10 minutes.
