Fox Glacier Valley Walk

Get close up and personal with the mighty Fox Glacier! This is an easy going track up the river gravels of the gorge carved out by the glacier.

It all ends with spectacular views of the terminal face (glacier front) and the glacier’s steep ice falls. Expect to be blown away by the huge geological forces at work here, and allow roughly one hour return walking from the road end carpark which is often frequented with mischievous kea, the world’s only mountain parrot.

This popular short walk takes you to the terminal face of Fox Glacier, and is suitable for most ages and fitness levels. If you are not planning to do a guided walk on the glacier with Fox Glacier Guiding, we recommend that you at least visit the glacier face by doing this walk.
